Counting calories is the beginning of every good diet. Only by understanding just what is "calorie-expensive" and what is "calorie-poor" can we begin to get a handle on the valuable foods to eat, and the weight-producing foods to avoid or eat in measured amounts. Invariably, if one counts calories, one will eat right.
The Juicy Foods diet, however, does something new. We only count and limit the calories of the fats, grains, sugared, honeyed, and processed foods we eat. We unabashedly "pig out" on salads, with infinite additions, on fresh fruits of sweetest kinds, on fresh-bought cooked vegetables, and non-grain-starch soups, without bothering to calculate one dot. NOTE: this means fresh fruits and vegetables, ones that are full of their unique, natural, living juices. We eat in measured way any dried, concentrated, curried, canned, sweetened, salted, or any other form of processed veggies or fruits. We can eat lots of them, too, but they do not form the bulk of the Juicy Foods diet.
About potatoes: live potatoes, if baked or boiled or steamed, can be eaten without fear of gaining very much, or perhaps will cause weight loss just as the other vegetables do. But if processed (i.e., in a box, can, or package mix), they add weight like other carbohydrates. Again, it seems to be the living juice in the potatoes that help the body handle them in a balanced way.
